World Vision 40 Hour Famine Written by Seth Watts on 24/03/2009 9:56:24 AM

I always get a kick out of working with companies whose products and services are doing something to help the community, so I'm especially excited to see the 40 hour famine booklet ship to World Vision today.  We've been working on the project for about 3 months and it's come together in less than 3 weeks from sign-off, which I think is a record for delivering 330,000 personalised booklets.

The project requires the production of 330,000 books, each of which needs to be personalised for the recipient.  This is huge undertaking and requires a full compliment of equipment.  We utilised our iGen3 press to personalise each section, which required over 100 hours of non-stop printing.  The book used to be printed on ink jet printers, which delivered a very low quality print job and made it very hard for the World Vision barcode readers to accurately track each book.  By using the digital press, we delivered offset quality for the variable sections.  We printed the remainder of the book on our Heidelberg presses and then brought the two pieces together on our stitching line.  The end result was a project delivered in record time, with fair higher quality than the previous supplier and near zero wastage.   This is a great example of how New Litho can bring together standard printing technologies with digital printing to deliver cost effective solutions to our clients.
